& it’s not digital marketing
After many business attempts, I finally found something that is best suitable for stay-at-home moms.
I’ve tried
- dropshipping
- starting an online boutique
- an at-home embroidery biz
- creating a product line using private label
- & many others
I didn’t go all in on these (except the embroidery biz) but I did set them up and try to take a swing at them. The embroidery biz was too much work. Raising two small toddlers at home and only having one machine to work with didn’t really make it ideal. Embroidery on its own can be very stressful, and that’s coming from someone who’s worked as an embroidery machine operator for MANY years prior to giving it a go at home.
The realization of running an online biz as a stay-at-home mom
After many failed attempts there were really two things I realized I wanted in an online business:
- I wanted everything digital – no physical products.
- I wanted more of a “work smarter not harder” approach.
As you know being a mom is already a lot of work in itself. However, having that source of income is extremely important, especially in today’s economy.
I would tell you, like many others that digital marketing is by far your best bet when it comes to checking those boxes but I found it to be a total lie. Digital marketing is a skill you need to be successful when running an online business. But is not something I would recommend on its own.
Let me tell you why.
Digital marketing is way too much work, especially for a stay-at-home mom!
Digital Marketing comes down to:
- Creating content
- responding to messages
- ignoring the hate comments
- responding to emails
- creating short videos
- creating daily stories
& so much more! I think most can agree that we as moms gave up work because daycare is expensive and/or we wanted to be fully present with our children.
Raise them ourselves, watch them grow, and connect with them as much as possible.
Digital marketing is too much work for us moms
That’s right I said it.
Digital Marketing involves lots of screen time, staring at our phones, and probably getting snippy with our kids because all we want is to “quickly finish editing this Reel” for the gram or “write up a quick caption for our story.” Little do you know 40 minutes have gone by since you started creating/editing that video.
I thought we wanted to spend more time with our kids.
Be more present.
Yet here we are creating daily content to try and gain another follower. Next thing you know we’re avoiding our kids, feeling irritable, and now we’re fighting with a stranger over the internet due to hate – because trust me they are there! Not only did you waste a lot of time responding and overthinking that rude comment but your entire day is ruined because of it, putting you in a horrible mood.

The truth is writing is fun, and being a mom it’s easy to lose your social life and maybe even your social skills at that lol.
